5 years plan

Writing a 5-year plan is not an easy task for me. Personally, I still don't know what I want to do in my future and what I enjoy doing the most. I did a small research about future plans and how to write them, and what seemed to be good advice for a start was to do a simple SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) so help me understand where I am now. Strengths - passionate about creating art - interested in various media and techniques across the field - flexibility - putting my own personality into my work Weaknesses - stressing out - time planning and deadlines - quick sketching - thinking I am not good enough until I am perfect Opportunities - being able to work on my personal projects after graduation - improving my skills - networking - freelance jobs Threats - my own "I am not good enough" mindset - working without deadlines - very competitive industry - stagnate or quitting creating things Then I needed to think abo...

Covering Letter

Dear sir/madam, I would like to apply for the junior character artist role you advertised on your website. I am also enclosing my CV and a link to a website with my portfolio as requested. I am currently in the final year of my animation degree, in which I have specialised in CGI. I have been passionate about art from childhood and since moving to the UK to further study in this field I've become infatuated with 3D art. My main focus is photorealistic humanoid characters, I am interested in the opportunity to work at Ubisoft as their work involves this type of character in a variety of different settings and eras enabling the possibility to explore all aspects of realistic character design in projects covering all different kinds of themes and visual styles. I am skilled in Maya, Zbrush and currently expanding my repertoire by learning Substance Painter, Substance Designer and Marmoset Toolbag. I consider myself very flexible technically, being able to transfer relevant skil...

CV

CV or resumé is a necessary document when applying for any job. In CV, you summarise all important facts about yourself that your employer needs to know. It should include name, date of birth, address, contact information, education, previous work experience and skills. It is also good to include a short paragraph about you, languages you speak or hobbies that can be relevant to the job you are applying for. Because I have written CV a couple of times before, during times I was looking for a job (and successfully I can say), the main focus of my research was the visual side of CV. Resumés for most jobs are meant to be plain and simple, but for jobs in the art industry, it is a good idea to have an interesting CV. CVs that I found the most appealing to me were made by different graphic designers or graphic design students. They keep it simple but use icons, pictures, graphs and colours at the same time. Their colour palettes vary from dark to light colours and from a...

How A.I. will change the 3D industry - Andrew Price

Image
During my industry research, I found this very interesting video of a talk by Andrew Price (the creator of Blender Guru and Poliigon) about the future of the 3D industry and how will A.I. affect it. As he said in the beginning, we have always thought that unlike manual labour jobs, computers can't replace artists because they can't replicate art or be creative. But lately, it is proven not to be true, as he showed us in the video. The main point of any future technology prediction is that "any technology that will make things better, faster and cheaper will eventually become a standard" (A. Price, 2018). The fact is, that making AAA games cost more and more money and they are already more expensive than making a feature film. According to research by Raph Koster, the price of Triple-A games goes up 10 times every ten years. The main cost is making assets. He gave a great example of creating a building in 3D, just one building on a street. It needs modelling, wh...
